Toby James at 9 days old - Sunderland Photography Studio

Toby came to visit my studio from Hebburn, and his mum already had a clear idea of the colours and style she wanted in the photographs. She was well prepared with example photos saved from our website on her phone and already knew what props she wanted to use to achieve that simple rustic style. I guess I don't have to mention, that the little model agreed with no objections and slept beautifully through his session allowing me to work on creating the photos just as his mum requested :)

The vast majority of newborn babies visiting my Sunderland studio prefer to be wrapped snugly

The vast majority of newborn babies visiting my Sunderland studio prefer to be wrapped snugly. They are happy to be posed and positioned in props and rarely ever open a sleepy eye just to double check whether their mum is still close by. And this strong little man was no different, although wrapping him in the first place turned out to be a bit of a challenge. But once wrapped snug and secure, he enjoyed his session and posed like a proper little model :)

Oh sweet Nahla!

Oh sweet Nahla! We began this session with mum saying she's a proper sleepy bug so it would be great if I could capture at least one photo with her eyes open wide. Well as soon as the words were spoken, little lady decided to sleep no further and just stare at the camera for almost her entire session :)

But she knew what she was doing ..her portraits turned out stunning!

Meet gorgeous little Ryan, from Peterlee

Meet gorgeous little Ryan, from Peterlee. A joyful one month old, who posed like a sweet little newborn baby! He gladly slept for a while giving me an opportunity to pose him in different props, and then presented me with that sweet curious look whenever he finished his nap :) He was such a pleasure to work with!

Oh this trio!

Oh this trio! Charlie & Oliver were only one week old when they traveled from Seaham to visit my studio for their newborn session. Posing these two little guys was a real challenge at times, as they would gladly suckle on one another's cheek if snuggled together! But on the other hand, their big brtoher Noah was a real angel! It doesn't happen very often to meet a two year old who would happily listen to instructions, and yet he was so easy to work with! And he was so careful with his little brothers, bless him!

Thank you for visiting my studio guys!

Whenever I photograph newborn babies, parents tend to prefer a more neutral colour palette

Whenever I photograph newborn babies, parents tend to prefer a more neutral colour palette. But this little man looks simply amazing in blues! He rocked all blue set ups I prepared for him, from mild pastels to dark navy ...and I could photograph him forever!

Grayson, I loved your newborn session so much! Thank you for visiting my studio!

10 days new baby girl

My newborn sessions take place usually between the 4th and 14th day of baby's life. This is mainly because within this short period of time, babies are much more keen on being posed while asleep. They've just escaped their mummy's womb, a cosy space offering warmth, safety and perfect comfort, so my job is to mimic these conditions during their newborn session, to keep them happy and content. It's always wonderfully warm at the studio, and a shushing noise imitating womb sounds helps the baby naturally fall asleep ..it really does work wonders ...sometimes even parents snooze away in the comfort of our cozy chairs :)

Little beauty from Chester-le-Street

Such a beautiful girl with amazing hair but don’t let it fool you, from the beginning she showed what she wants and who’s the boss here! Of course she wanted a lottt of milk! However after she filled her tummy, she gave us sooo many smiles, I wanted to give her the milk every 5 minutes!

Soon after that came the 'nappy filling' (just try to imagine what it's like when the nappy's not on!). I finished this session with a basked full off blankets to wash. But if you look at her gorgeous smiles in these photos... it was well worth it!

Newborn boy from Washington

This last period has been filled with a ton of newborn sessions. So many that it felt as if I lived in the studio :) Am I tired? Of course. But the joy of photographing these little models is way bigger, so that I forget about the less important things such as tiredness.

Especially when I have such an adorable newborn in the studio like this little man! He was born 4 weeks before his due date, and he was only 2 weeks on the newborn session. Although still very tiny, he was incredibly strong! He slept beautifully the whole session and let me take so many photos .. oooh it will be so hard to pick the best ones when they’re all so gorgeous!
